Are Your Eyeglasses Ruining Your Vision?

People will avoid wearing their eyeglasses for tons of different reasons. It might be that they don't like the way that they look on them, or they're not necessarily comfortable, or it could be that, like a lot of other people, they think that wearing their glasses too much can hurt their eyesight. You might have heard people say this and be wondering if it's true and we are here to tell you that they do not.
Your eyeglasses are working with your eyes to correct your vision. Your prescription works perfectly with your eyes which allows them to relax and not work as hard to focus on things. This means that when you take the eyeglasses off your eyes will have to readjust to working a little harder to focus on things which can make you dizzy, out-of-focus, and slightly uncomfortable. This is why most people think that their vision is worsening while wearing their eyeglasses.
Some people buy into this myth because their eyesight is better in the morning than it is at night. There is an explanation for this as well which is that everyone's eyesight is this way. Eyes focus better in the morning because they are not as tired as they are later in the day and that night. Eyesight also declines slightly as you age which means that a lot of people will find that their eyesight is getting worse as they get older and that can easily be blamed on your eyeglasses but it is not.

The bad stuff comes in when you decide not to wear your eyeglasses. The most important time to wear glasses is as a child or teenager because without the corrective lenses there is a chance that you can develop a lazy eye as well as a squint while trying to focus. Corrective lenses can improve and increase reading speed by a lot which is helpful when children are in school.
Now that you have this information you can wear your glasses and have peace of mind knowing that they are not hurting your vision in any way. If you are really concerned that your eyesight may be worsening it is always a good idea to get in and visit your optometrist to see if you need a new prescription.
